In vitro fertilization (IVF), what is it? Eggs and sperm are collected and fertilized in the laboratory results before the embryo is transferred into the uterus. The woman takes fertility drugs to stimulate egg production. When these mature, are picked up by a doctor using ultrasound to guide the collection tube. The man produces a sample sperm, which is prepared prior to laying in a Petri dish and left for a few days to see if fertilization occurs. If a healthy embryo and develops, it is placed into the uterus through a catheter (needle) or a fine probe. Usually no more than one or two are placed. Any remaining embryos suitable for freezing can be stored for future use. Sperm and / or eggs used may be specific to the partner or donated. Why use it: for the treatment of unexplained infertility, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, SOP. Success rate: approximately 25 percent per cycle.
